Spectacular Darwin Rodeo

A fascinating annual event held every August, Darwin Rodeo is one occasion travelers shouldn't miss when visiting Australia's Northern Territory. Divided into several competitions, Darwin Rodeo consists of numerous breathtaking events.

Darwin Rodeo: The Events

In a classic "Saddle Bronc Ride" competition that tests the strength of both the horse and the rider, the goal of a Saddle Bronc rider is to tame a wild horse. This spectacular show dates back to early times when humans first learned to subdue wild horses and turn them into hunting or farming companions.

For those who are thirsty for action, the "Bull Ride" event is worth watching. Considered as one of the riskiest event in Darwin Rodeo, Bull riders steer the highly-aggressive beasts that are known for their heavy muscular built and dangerous horns that could cause serious injuries. Dressed in cowboy suits, daredevils try to ride wild bulls in front of hundreds of spectators.

Tying cattle in Australia originated from a time when cowboys herded cattles in farms ever since the late eighteenth century. As of today, the basic skills behind these herding tasks are brought to life during "Rope and Tie" events. Darwin Rodeo has its own share of skilled ropers who are willing to test their skills and strength in front of large rooting crowds.

Another jaw-dropping event held during Darwin Rodeo is "Bareback Bronc Riding". This event is similar to a "Saddle Bronc Ride". The difference is that Bareback Bronc riders aren't entitled to a reign or saddle, making it the ultimate wild ride for daredevils.

For a more exciting rodeo event, travelers shouldn't miss the "Barrel Race". In this competition, contestants are to ride and steer a horse through a maze of barrels and clover-like patterns. A penalty is given to the rider who knocks down a barrel.

"Team Roping" and "Steer Wrestling" are other exciting events of Darwin Rodeo. Both of these competitions attract plenty of cowboys, daredevils, and spectators who are thirsty for some live rodeo action.
