Crocosaurus Cove - The Cage Of Death

Snow is to Antarctica as reptiles are to Australia and Crocosaurus is Darwins new venue that plays homage to these prized creatures. As the name suggests, Crocosaurus Cove has a range of crocodiles at all stages of their lives in addition to the largest exhibition of Australian reptiles.  A large aquarium showcases the big fish of Australian fresh waters. The park is fantastic in the way that it allows visitors to learn and interact with the animals with a hands on approach. There is also an exhibition of Aboriginal Art and culture which Darwin excels in.

The Cage of Death

One of the greatest attractions of Crocosaurus Cove is the Cage of Death. This involves submerging occupants of the fully glass walled and bottomed cage into a pool of crocodiles including an 18 Foot crocodile called Choppa. Choppa has had an interesting life, apparent by the many fight scars on his body and his mangled too front feet. Injuries aside his jaw and teeth are still in excellent condition and while submerged for 15 minutes, theres a good chance Choppa will take the opportunity to use them. The Cube made of 4cm (1.5 inch) acrylic glass already has some serious gashes and markings in it courtesy of the pools unfriendly crocodiles.

Cost (plus entry fee):

  • 1 person: $120
  • 2 persons: $160

Bookings required, see contact us

Swim with the Crocodiles

Not quite as scary as the Cage of Death, you can take a swim next to an enclosure of crocodiles so bring the swim wear.

Animals

The first animal you will see on entering Crocosaurus after walking into caves and around a waterfall is a huge Moray Eel. Not too long after this is a 3.5 metre Python, a taste of whats inside. Inside the cove are not only the massive crocodiles but crocodiles at all stages of their lives including many little baby sized crocodiles and hatchlings. The largest collection of Australian reptiles along with many reptiles from around the world is spread throughout the cove and a turtle sanctuary.

The fresh water aquarium has huge unique Australian fish and the not so big, false clown Nemo fish which are black and white instead of orange and red. Darwin is the only place in the world these fish can be found.
