Alice Springs Reptile Centre
The Alice Springs Reptile Centre showcases more then 100 reptiles, the largest display in the Northern Territory. One of the highlights is Terry, the saltwater crocodile. He has an area that he can bask and swim in, including an underwater window to allow visitors to watch observe him swimming. Fossil Cave The "fossil cave" is a large exhibition area filled with fossils put together by paleontologist Michael Durrant. The cave is the entrance to the park providing an in-depth look at the wildlife that roamed the Northern Territory in the past before moving on to the rest of the park to see the reptiles that roam the Territory today. It's an impressive area with a rock faced interior, with the honor of hosting the Steve Irwin Tribute night, September 2006. Hold the Animals The reptile park has a reputation for the most hands on approach allowing visitors to handle and feed the lizards and snakes under the guidance of trained staff. Be sure to have your camera on the day to prove that you have handled the reptiles such as huge pythons that can be draped over a couple of people at once. It is strongly recommended to attend the demonstrations for more interaction and to see reptiles feeding. Allow at least an hour and half for your visit. Hours of Operation
