Royal Flying Doctors Service

Alice Springs Visitor Centre

The Royal Flying Doctors Service (RFDS) has played an invaluable role in Central Australia's history saving lives in its most remote areas. It still operates and is of great value to the territory today, the Alice Springs base open since 1939. Its facilities have continually upgraded to meet modern advancements in technology and this is reflected in the visitor centre.

The visitor centre has celebrated its 30th birthday at the turn of the millennium and draws in more than a hundred thousand visitors a year.

Tours

  • On the hour and half hour
  • You will be guided through the centre by a staff member, tour takes approximately 45 minutes

Facilities

  • Radio Communication Centre: Where day to day operations can be explained
  • Museum: Filled with old records and memorabilia
  • Base Operations room
  • Aircraft Simulator
  • Cafe: Light food, snacks and drinks
  • Souvenir Shop: Contains many souvenirs adorning the RFDS logo. Souvenirs may also be obtained by contacting the centre by email or phone.

Hours of Operation

  • 9am-5pm*     (Monday to Saturday)
  • 1pm-5pm*     (Sunday & Public Holidays)
  • Closed           (Christmas Day and New Years Day)

*The last tour for the day is at 4pm

Entrance Fee

  • Adults: $6.50
  • Children (6-15 years) $3.00
  • Children Under 6 years: Free
  • Coach group of students: $4.20

  • By foot, it is very close to the centre of Alice Springs central
  • There is ample parking for cars and coaches at the centre
